Leg Vein Treatment

Leg vein treatment is a comprehensive, medically led treatment designed to reduce the appearance of visible leg veins and restore clearer, healthier-looking skin. Using a combination of microsclerotherapy and ThermaVein technology, we treat both the underlying reticular (feeder) veins and the fine spider veins (telangiectasia) responsible for visible vascular networks. By addressing the source of the problem as well as the superficial veins, we achieve more effective and longer-lasting results. Ideal for individuals concerned about thread veins, spider veins, or visible leg veins, our personalised treatment plans help improve the appearance of your legs with minimal downtime. Restore your confidence and enjoy smoother, clearer-looking legs

Questions You May Have

What is Sclerotherapy, and how does it work?

Leg Vein treatment is a medical treatment designed to reduce the appearance of visible leg veins, including blue reticular (feeder) veins and fine red or purple spider veins (telangiectasia). At Renu, we combine microsclerotherapywith ThermaVein where appropriate to achieve the most comprehensive cosmetic result.

What is the difference between sclerotherapy and ThermaVein?

Microsclerotherapy uses tiny injections of a specialised solution to close larger thread veins and reticular feeder veins beneath the skin.

ThermaVein uses a fine probe to deliver a controlled burst of heat to seal extremely small superficial vessels that are too fine to inject effectively.

By combining both treatments, we can address the deeper feeder veins as well as the tiny surface vessels responsible for visible spider veins.

Why do you combine sclerotherapy and ThermaVein in the same appointment?

Visible spider veins are often supplied by slightly larger feeder veins beneath the skin. Treating only the surface veins can lead to incomplete results or early recurrence.

Our combined approach allows us to treat the underlying reticular veins with microsclerotherapy while using ThermaVein® to remove the smallest residual vessels during the same visit, providing a more complete treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Most patients require 2–3 treatment sessions to achieve the best  result, although some may require additional sessions depending on the number, size and complexity of the veins.

Every patient’s veins respond differently, and new veins can develop over time due to genetics, hormones, pregnancy or ageing.

How long should I wait between treatments?

Treatment sessions are usually spaced 8–12 weeks apart.

This allows your body enough time to absorb the treated veins and for the final result to become visible before deciding whether additional treatment is required.

When will I see results?

You should not expect an immediate improvement.

In fact, treated veins often look darker, bruised or more noticeable before they begin to fade. This is a normal part of the healing process.

Small spider veins may begin fading within 3–6 weeks, while larger veins can continue improving over 3–4 months. Healing varies between individuals and patience is essential.

Will all of my veins disappear?

Our aim is to achieve a significant improvement in the appearance of your legs rather than complete removal of every visible vein.

While treated veins usually do not reopen, your body can naturally develop new thread veins over time. Maintenance treatments may be recommended to preserve your results.

Will I need to wear compression stockings?

Yes. Compression stockings are an important part of your treatment. They help keep the treated vein walls closed, reduce bruising and swelling, lower the risk of pigmentation and support the healing process.

Most patients are advised to wear 20–30 mmHg graduated compression stockings for approximately 2–3 weeks following treatment. Your practitioner will provide personalised instructions based on your treatment.

What are the possible side effects?

  • Mild discomfort or stinging during treatment
  • Bruising
  • Tenderness
  • Local swelling
  • Small firm lumps where veins are healing
  • Redness around treated veins

These usually settle over the following days to weeks.

Can pigmentation occur?

Yes. Brown staining (hyperpigmentation) is one of the most common temporary side effects of sclerotherapy.

It occurs when small amounts of blood become trapped within the treated vein as it heals. In most patients, the pigmentation gradually fades over several months, although in some cases it can take up to 12 months to fully resolve.

Following your aftercare advice, wearing compression stockings and protecting the treated areas from sun exposure can help reduce the risk.

Can new spider veins appear after treatment?

Yes. Treatment  closes the veins that are injected or treated, but it cannot prevent your body from forming new veins in the future. Genetics, hormonal changes, pregnancy, prolonged standing and ageing all play a role.

Some patients choose occasional maintenance treatments every few years to keep their legs looking their best.

Can I return to normal activities?

Yes. Most patients return to work and normal daily activities immediately.

We encourage regular walking after treatment to promote healthy circulation. However, you should avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths, saunas and prolonged sun exposure for several days after your procedure, as advised by your practitioner.

Am I suitable for treatment?

Leg Vein Correction is suitable for many people with cosmetic thread veins and small reticular veins.

If we suspect underlying venous disease, significant varicose veins or venous reflux, we will refer you to a vascular specialist before proceeding with cosmetic treatment. Your safety and long-term vein health are always our priority.

What are the costs?

Costs start from £250, full price will be given at your consultation.
