Also referred to as “barcode lines”; the medical term is “perioral lines” and we can treat this delicate area with a combination of treatments including dermal filler.
Perioral wrinkles are the fine or deep lines that occur around the mouth and lips. As we get older this area is often one of the first to develop wrinkles. Like most wrinkles on the face, sun exposure, genetics and smoking (smokers lines) are strong contributors to the development of these wrinkles.
These are vertical lines that appear from the border of the lip extending up towards the nose or down towards the chin. We may also see a horizontal line that runs across the philtrim, underneath the nostrils particularly when speaking.
There are lots of contributing factors why perioral lines form; Intrinsic ageing leads to loss of collagen, hyaluronic acid and a loss in skin laxity. The muscle surrounding the area which we use daily for eating, drinking and talking, becomes weaker. The fat layers and yourbone structure in this area reduces with increased age and this esults in loss of elasticity and support for the tissues in that area.
Extrinsic factors such as UV exposure, the use of sunbeds and smoking also contribute to increased ageing in the skin.
We treat the areas with a type of dermal filler called Teoxane. This special filler used will soften the lines and wrinkles making them appear less noticeable.
With every non surgical treatment there is some risks. Those risks will be explained fully at your consultation however common side effects are redness, swelling, bruising and slight discomfort. They are all transient in nature and can last a few days to a week.
With this type of treatment you can return to work the same day however there may be some swelling or bruising to the area. We ask you to refrain from any strenuous exercise for the next 24 hours and avoid excessive heat to the area.
