FIBROUS PAPULE

Fibrous Papules are composed of dilated blood vessels, fibroblasts, collagen, or skin cells and supporting material, as seen under a microscope. These tumors are known as the fibrous papules of the face because they are frequently found on the face and arise in a single location.

Fibrous papules are benign growths that show as hard nodules on the sides of the nose or other areas of the face. The majority of the time, there is only one papule, although there can also  be several at the same time.

Affected areas are  the face and neck, as well as the lip and forehead.  A fibrous papule is often shaped like a little dome, however, it can occasionally grow up a little more, like a wart in progress.

The papules are usually hard, vary in hue from skin-toned to pink to red, and range in size from 1 to 6 millimeters in diameter in the majority of cases.

Angiofibromas are diagnosed by our Nurse based on their appearance. We will also use a special tool called a dermoscope to have a closer look. In cases where the lesion needs to be differentiated from other similar looking skin lesions we will take photographs and refer to your GP or we may decide to perform a biopsy (take a sample of the skin) and send it to histology who will examine it under the microscope.

The preferred treatment is by Radiowaves surgery. This method is scarless and removes the lesion. We will also send to histology if required.
