PRP and Microneedling
At Renu, we’re very excited to bring back to our clients the latest in skin rejuvenation: Microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma). This procedure uses Regen the most advanced kits alongside our Microneedling device. PRP can be performed on the face as well as the body.
We obtain Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP,by extracting a small amount of blood from your arm into a sterile tube. The blood is then centrifuged to separate your plasma, which we use for the treatment, from your red and white blood cells. The plasma that is extracted contains high concentration of platelets, stem cells and growth factors which when injected back into the tissue helps your tissue to heal and grow new cells.
Historically, PRP has been primarily used in orthopedic medicine, dentistry and reconstructive surgery to help speed recovery. Now used widely in cosmetic dermatology to help repair ageing skin and th stimulate new collagen and elastin for younger, fresher looking skin.
As A-PRP® is processed from the patients own blood, there is no risk of allergy or rejection with this treatment.
PRP therapy can treat a variety of skin conditions, such as:
- Ageing skin
- Fine lines and wrinkles
What happens during treatment?
At the start of the PRP procedure, we will draw around 10 mls of bloodfrom your arm.
We then put the blood into a centrifuge, which separates the platelets from the white and red blood cells. This part of the process takes around 3 minutes.
We will then inject the platelet-rich serum into the areas of your face that is required and will perform our micro needling to penetrate the serum deep into the skin.
After the treatment is complete we will leave thoroughly clean the skin. The procedure takes around 45 min.
The skin will be pre numbed with a topical anaesthetic for around 30 min prior to the procedure for comfort.
Is PRP safe?
PRP has been used in hundreds of thousands of procedures, worldwide, for the past 30 years, particularly in maxilla-facial, orthopaedic and cardiac surgery.
Because PRP is based on the use of autologous tissue – you are using your own blood to repair and regenerate your skin tissue – this procedure is one of the safest ways to revitalize and rejuvenate your skin.
Are there any side effects?
There may be some swelling and redness in the treated areas. This is normal and temporary, and we will provide you with the post-treatment advise to minimise any discomfort you may have. SPF is recommended daily after this procedure.
Does PRP hurt?
The face is pre numbed with a topical anaesthetic for around 30 min prior to the procedure to minimise any discomfort. .
What can I expect to see following treatment?
Your skin texture will improve over time as new tissue cells grow.
Visible results will usually take between 3 and 6 weeks, which will continue over the following months and you will see the best improvement.
How many treatments will I need?
We normally expect to see the best results after a course of 1 to 3 treatments.
Treatment with micro needling promotes skin rejuvenation by creating small puncture wounds in the outer layer of the skin. This injury will trigger the wound healing cascade and alters the modulation of growth factors to promote regeneration. Micro needling will increase collagen formation and thickness of the dermis(deeper layers of the skin).
