Nearly 30% of people have at least one tattoo. Almost half of all millennials have one. But not all of them are happy about their decision. As many as 25% of those with a tattoo say they regret getting it.If you’re in that 25%, there is good news. Laser Tattoo Removal techniques can get rid of your unwanted tattoo with minimal side effects.
We are a fully registered clinic with Healthcare Improvement Scotland.
Lasers remove tattoos by breaking up the pigment colors with a high-intensity light beam. Black tattoo pigment absorbs all laser wavelengths, making it the easiest color to treat. Other colors can only be treated by selected lasers based upon the pigment color.
You should first schedule a consultation with our trained professional who can evaluate your tattoo and advise you on the process. The number of treatments you will need will depend on the age, size, and color(s) of your tattoo. The color of your skin as well as how deep the tattoo pigment goes, will also affect the removal technique.
How many sessions will i need?
Tattoos don’t just disappear after a once-over with the laser. It takes a long time to complete because each time the tattoo is lasered, particles are broken down and digested by the body’s immune system. The regeneration period can be anywhere from eight to 12 weeks, and the next time you go, the laser breaks down new particles of pigment. And so on and so forth. A course of 6-10 treatments is often enough to remove the tattoo, depending on the colour and depth of the tattoo ink.
After your treatment.
Your skin may be red with a raised rash for a short while after treatment. Holding an ice pack to your skin may help.
You may have some slight bleeding before your skin scabs over. Use aloe vera gel or ZO Hydrating Cream which can be purchased in clinic.
Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun. Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 1 week after a treatment. Cover the area with clothing and use a sunscreen with at least SPF30.
You should avoid:
- picking or scratching the scab
- using soap or perfumed products on the area for the first 48 hours
- strenuous physical activities for a couple of days
- swimming and saunas until the scab has dropped off (they may slow the healing process)
Does Laser Tattoo removal hurt?
Yes! Unfortunately, no method of laser tattoo removal is completely pain-free. Laser tattoo removal has been likened to the feeling of having a rubber band repeatedly snapped against the skin. Others describe it as a rapid succession of sharp pinpricks, or a warm, prickly sensation. Because a lot of energy is needed in order for the laser to break up the ink particles under your skin, this treatment can be uncomfortable for some people. We do have our cryo 6 cooling machine that may help with your levels of pain. Your skin will also need 8 – 12 weeks to recover between treatments.
We focus on using only the best products and treatments that are fully supported and tested to the highest standard as well as being FDA approved.
